The Vilaine is a coastal river in France, which runs into the regions of Brittany and Pays de la Loire. It rises in the municipality of Juvigné. The Vilaine crosses the departments of Mayenne, Ille -et -Vilaine and Morbihan, and ends after 218 kilometers in Arzal, on the south coast of Brittany, as the estuary into the Atlantic.

Shipping

The Vilaine is navigable from the mouth to Rennes (131 km, 14 locks ). In Rennes, it has connection to the Canal d' Ille -et -Rance, which leads to the north coast of Brittany and ends at Saint- Malo in the Atlantic. In the Vilaine Redon forming a water intersection with the Canal de Nantes à Brest.
