Ascanio Mayone

Ascanio Mayone (* around 1570 in Naples, Kingdom of Naples, † March 9, 1627 ) was a Neapolitan composer, organist and harpist.

Life

Ascanio Mayone was possibly a pupil of Jean de Macque and initially worked at the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata Maggiore as second organist from 1593. Since 1621 he was maestro di cappella there of his life and remained connected long this church. As an organist he was obliged since 1602 alongside Giovanni Maria Trabaci also on the Real Cappella. Travels took him to Spain and Portugal.

Contain Mayone composed madrigals and published two volumes of harpsichord music, the Capricci by sonar (1603, 1609), the ricercare, canzoni, toccatas and partitas for which he chose the collective term Capriccio.
