The village Azeri ( Azeri alevik ) is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia. It is the main town in the rural community Azeri ( Azeri vald ).

Description and History

The village has 1,552 inhabitants ( 2011). It is located on the Gulf of Finland. In the Azeri Bach Meriküla ( Meriküla oja ) flows into the Baltic Sea.

Known among nature lovers Azeri lake are ( Azeri paisjärv ) and the Azeri Waterfall ( Azeri juga ). It has a height of 1.4 to 1.6 m.

Good Azeri

The Best of Azeri is one of the oldest in the former parish of Viru - Nigula. It was first mentioned in records in 1367 under the name Aces Rien. for 1534, the Azeri village is occupied.

Until 1581 the estate was owned by the noble family of Baltic German Lode. After the Livonian War in the 16th century it fell to the Swedish crown. From the 17th to the 20th century the property changed hands many times.

In the course of Estonian land reform in 1919 the estate was expropriated and divided the land among the local farmers. Today, few historic buildings of the estate are still preserved.

Factory location Azeri

A large increase in population experienced the fishing village Azeri with the industrialization of the region at the end of the 19th century. In the years 1899 to 1905 in Azeri was one of the first cement factory in Estonia. The decisive factor was the favorable soil for its production of the area. Its founders was the district administrator and owner of the goods of Azeri and Koogu, the Baltic German Hermann Otto Schilling. The corporation aces Rien had a registered capital of 1.5 million gold rubles. Gradually incurred at the place of factory buildings, workers' housing, a power plant and a modern water system. Shortly before the outbreak of the First World War, the number of workers was nearly a thousand. The cement factory was closed in 1928. The ruins of some buildings are still visible today.

After the state independence of Estonia, the Brickyard Saue was founded in 1922 in Azeri. 1935/37 was added in the larger corporation Riiklikud Tellisetehased, which also produced bricks.

In 1939 with Azeri a pier at the Baltic Sea, which served the Seeexport of the building material. The main customers were Finland and Sweden. The harbor led from the station Sonda from a small narrow gauge railway.
