Ashley Hutchings

Ashley " Tyger" Hutchings ( born January 26, 1945 in Southgate, Middlesex ) is a British folk-rock singer and bassist.

Hutchings began as a singer and bassist of a skiffle band. In 1966 he founded together with Simon Nicol, Steve Airey and Bryan King the Ethnic Shuffle Orchestra. The band did not stay very long. Already in 1967 founded Hutchings and Nicol, a folk-rock band called Fairport Convention. After the release of deck & Lief, the fourth album of the band, 1970, Hutchings was the play Fairport Convention no longer tradition confident enough and he got out. Only then a short time later he was one of the founding members of Steeleye Span.

But even with Steeleye Span Hutchings thought it not long before he returned to the band in 1971 again back to the Albion band together. The band was formerly intended as a companion volume of Hutchings ' late wife, Shirley Collins, but then remained but lasts longer, even if the cast kept changing. And also the name of the band changed often. In 1974 she was called Etchingham Steam band, In 1975 the Albion Dance Band and 1978, the name eventually shortened to Albion Band, which still exists with changing line- up today.

In the first half of the 1970s Hutchings had also started solo records and duo panels to publish with other folk musicians ( including John Kirkpatrick and Judy Dunlop ). In addition, he still worked in the 1970s and 1980s with many other musicians, including Ian Matthews, Shirley Collins, Royston and Heather Wood, Richard Thompson, Ray Fisher, Mike and Lal Waterson and Martin Carthy. In the 1990s, Hutchings formed a skiffle revival band named Ashley Hutchings ' Big Beat Combo.

Hutchings was involved as a producer and contributor to many theater, television and radio productions. His work-up of traditional folk dances in folk-rock context was crucial to the UK scene.
