Asinius

Asinius is the noun originally plebeian gens Asinia the Roman Empire. Their representatives are attested from the 1st century BC. The family came from Teate Marrucinorum (modern Chieti). Especially living in the late Republic and early Empire Gaius Asinius Pollio politicians and historians became known. Since the era of Emperor Augustus, the members were of the gens to the patricians. From a bearer of the name Asinius leads the Italian city Assignano from its name.
