Asociación Deportiva Atenas

Asociación Deportiva Atenas (usually just called Atenas ) is an Argentine sports club from Córdoba. He is mainly known for its activity in basketball, where he is one of the most successful clubs in South America. Since the name of the Greek capital Athens comes, the club is also going popularly known griegos or give by the Argentine tradition, clubs nickname in the singular, el griego ( the Greeks or the Greek).

The club was founded on March 7, 1938 by members of a former tennis clubs. Today he is active in numerous sports, including basketball besides athletics, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, judo, karate and chess.

Basketball

In basketball, Atenas has been known from the 40s and quickly became the dominant team in the province of Córdoba; the club won the provincial championship 1948-1957 consecutively, with the exception of 1953. As the Argentine professional basketball league was founded in the 80s, the hit series began at the state and later internationally. He was charged with eight tracks to the record holder of the Argentine league, and also won 1993-2004 six South -wide title.

In Atenas played numerous well-known Argentine basketball player, Marcelo Milanesio, Fabricio Oberto, Héctor Campana, Diego Osella and Juan Espil.
