The bird's nest fern ( Asplenium nidus ) is a plant from the family of Streifenfarngewächse ( Aspleniaceae ).

Description

The bird's nest fern is a perennial herbaceous plant. The fronds of the nest fern are short handle, broad, smooth, slightly wavy on the edge and shine in lush greenery. The plant is increasingly tight up to 1 meter tall and with age. The up to 50 cm wide fronds form a funnel crown in which is was blowing soil collects as in a nest from which the young leaves unfurl.

Occurrence

Its natural distribution includes the bird's nest fern in the rain forests of East Africa, tropical Asia, Australia and Polynesia. There he is growing as epiphytes on trees. As an indoor plant in pots it is popular.
