Assault & Battery is the second album by the Australian hard rock band Rose Tattoo. it was published in 1981 on Albert Productions in Australia and Carrere and WEA Records in Europe and the United States.

Genesis

After the first album Rose Tattoo was first published three years after the Australian publication in the rest of the world, the successor came into the world almost simultaneously on the market. The album was again at Albert Studios in Sydney, Australia, recorded and produced by the experienced producer George Young and Harry Vanda. Unlike the debut, in which the entire band was responsible for the songwriting, now came the most songs by Angry Anderson and Mick Cocks.

Shortly before the release, the band had a celebrated appearance at the Reading Festival, which was to cement the controversial and hard image of the band. The album was followed by a headlining tour and a tour in support of Rainbow, which made the band known in the UK.

Republication

The album was re-released in 2008 by Repertoire Records in Digipak. In addition to liner notes by journalist Michael Heatley, the album includes two bonus tracks: the single version of Rock ' n' Roll Is King ( 3:28 ) and the B-side I Had You First ( 2:34 ).

Texts

The lyrics of the band are very direct and outspoken. Dominated by a " male " image most of the songs are very suggestive, such as Magnum Maid, Sidewalk Sally or I Had You First. More text content is the hard outlaw life in Australia. The title song Assault & Battery (Eng. " violence and injury " ), for example, is based on the arrest Angry Anderson after he attacked a policeman.

Singles

The Single Rock 'n' Roll Is King ( B-side: I Had You First ) were decoupled from the album. A rarity in the discography of the band forms the double 7'' single Assault & Battery with four songs. Besides the title song Astra Wally and One of the Boys from the debut album and Manzil Madness from their second album.
