Asta Gröting

Asta Gröting (* 1961 in Herford ) is a German artist. She lives in Berlin.

Life

After leaving school in 1981 Gröting studied sculpture at the Academy of Arts Dusseldorf and graduated in 1986 as a master student of Klaus Rinke. At subsidies it received in 1989, the Karl Schmidt- Rottluff scholarship and 1992 Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia. Whilst still a student Gröting was represented at numerous national and international exhibitions and received the 1994 Otto Dix price of Gera. From 1996 to 1997 she worked as a visiting professor at the School of Art Valand Gothenburg University, at the University of Kassel and at the Städel School in Frankfurt am Main. From 1997 to 2003 she was professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Since 2009, she taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig.

Gröting initially dealt primarily with the medium of sculpture and "created expansive works of impressive form and material aesthetics "; In 1993 she also began to turn to the artistic expression of the film.

In recent years, Gröting turned more and more to the sculpture.
