The bishop's cap ( Astrophytum myriostigma ) is a species of the genus Astrophytum in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet myriostigma derives from the Greek words " μνρίός " ( myrios ) for innumerable and " οτίγμα " ( stigma ) for stain from. Other common names next to " miter " are " Mitra " and " Bonete de Obispo ".

Description

Astrophytum myriostigma is from spherical to cylindrical growth. The shoots are covered with dense clusters of white trichomes and hence appear whitish. You reach a stature height 10-25 centimeters and a diameter of 10 to 18 centimeters. On the usually 5 wide - triangular fins are located in the distance of 10 to 20 mm round areolae. Spines are absent.
