Asya Miller

Asya Miller ( born October 16, 1979 in Lapeer, Michigan) is an American athlete, who in addition to powerlifting ( bench press ) and athletics, especially in the sport of Goalball is active.

Miller grew up in Lapeer and was very influenced by the sporting activities of their parents. In its eleventh year was at her Stargardt's disease, a very rare juvenile macular degeneration diagnosed. After graduating from Lapeer East High School, she attended Western Michigan University. There she was in her first year with the sport of Goalball in touch and played with the Western Michigan University Broncos, the Goalball Team their university. After completing her studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Miller is now employed by the Department of Defense. In 2008 she received her Masters from the University of Colorado.

Sporty, she continued her career continued at the Goalball Goalball Kalamazoo chaos and in the women's national team of the United States. With the latter, she participated in the Malmo Lady Intercup in Sweden, at the Défi sportif in Montreal and at the Paralympic Games in part. Miller was also active in powerlifting ( bench press ) and in the discus throw. In its over 15 -year-old athletic career, she won more than 50 medals, including one Paralympic gold, silver and bronze medals, and set 13 world records in powerlifting and two in track and on. In 2001, she was selected by the Olympic Committee of the United States Athlete of the Year, an honor that the Disabilities Hall of Fame ( ADHOF ) let her be received in 2005. 2008 Miller won in Beijing with the Women's Goalball team a gold medal.

Since 1988 she has worked as a volunteer at the Sports Education Camp of Michigan Blind Athletic Association.
