Atanasio Aguirre

Atanasio de la Cruz Aguirre Aguado ( born June 2, 1801 in Montevideo, † September 28, 1875 ) was a Uruguayan politician.

Cruz Aguirre, who belonged to the Partido Nacional, was 1833-1838 first minister of war and was named after the Uruguayan Civil War in 1852 as a deputy in the 6th legislature initially for Minas (in this case, however, he retired prematurely on March 4, 1854 the Office ) and then re-elected in the 8th parliamentary term for the Departamento Paysandú in the Cámara de Representantes. There took over 1853 the office of President of the Chamber, after he had acted in the previous year already as second vice president of the House of Representatives. 1858 and 1859 he practiced in turn perform the duties of the first vice-president in this political institution. Elected to the Senate in 1861 for the department of Salto, he took over in 1864, the Senate presidency of Eduardo Acevedo. In this role, he solved then on March 1, 1864 President Bernardo Prudencio Berro in governance and remained until February 15, 1865 Interim President of Uruguay.
