Atifete Jahjaga

Atifete Jahjaga [ atɪf'e: tɛ jahj'a: ga ] ( born April 20, 1975 in Rashkoc, SFRY) is since 2011 President of Kosovo. She is the first woman, the first non-party candidate, and the youngest elected to this office.

Life

Training

Jahjaga was born in the village Rashkoc in the large village of Gjakova. The elementary school and the high school she graduated in Pristina. At the Faculty of Law at the University of Prishtina, she studied until 2000 law. In 2007 she graduated from the University of Virginia in the criminological sciences. From 2007-2008 she deepened her knowledge of criminal law and police management at the University of Leicester in the UK. Also training in the European Center for Security Studies " George C. Marshall " and at the FBI National Academy belong to Jahjagas training.

Jahjaga lives modestly in an apartment in Pristina and is married to the dentist Astrit Kuçi since 2012.

Deputy Police President

Atifete Jahjaga held various offices in the police was only founded in 2000 the Kosovo police. So it was at times a police officer, regional police chief and member of the General Staff. In February 2009, she was eventually promoted to Deputy Police President. This task she held until her election to the State President on April 7, 2011.

Election as President of the Republic

On April 6, 2011, she was from the Democratic Party, the Democratic League, the New Kosovo Alliance and the United States ambassador in Pristina, Christopher Dell, proposed for the office of President.
