The Atlantic Star was a cruise ship that was built under the name Fairsky 1984.

History

The Fairsky was built in 1984 by Chantiers du Nord et de la Mediterranee in La Seyne -Sur Mer (France ) for the cruise company Sitmar Cruises. After Sitmar was purchased by P & O Cruises, you renamed the ship in Sky Princess and put it for P & O Princess Cruises subsidiary. 2000, joined under the name Pacific Sky to P & O Cruises Australia and there replaced the already over 40 years old Fair Princess. The ship transported between 2000 and 2006 more than 275,000 people to more than 200 cruises. In 2006, the ship was acquired by Pullmantur Cruises and renamed Sky Wonder. In 2007, however, was replaced by the Regal Princess and launched in Piraeus in March 2009. In April 2009, the ship was reinstated as Atlantic Star in the Portuguese market. 2010, it was finally decommissioned and placed in Marseille. There were plans to rebuild the ship and fitted with a more modern machinery and using as Mona Lisa II. However, nothing came of it. In March 2013, the ship pulled by tugs left the port of Marseille, to be scrapped in Aliaga (Turkey). For this purpose, it was renamed for the last time in Antic. On April 14, it arrived in Aliaga. The demolition of the ship began a few days later.

Specifications

The Atlantic Star was about 240 meters long and over 28 meters wide. She was the last cruise ship that still ran steam turbines. This machinery allowed her a maximum speed of 21.8 knots ( about 40 km / h). She had a survey of 46 087 GT.

Accidents

The ship was involved in the course of his service in some accidents. Among other things, she ran in 2007 on a sandbar off the coast of Argentina.
