Atrophy (band)

Atrophy was a thrash metal band from Tucson, Arizona.

History

It was founded by Chris Lykins, James Gulotta, and Brian Zimmerman. The original band name was Heresy, but after the band was completed by Tim Kelly and Rick Skowron, they changed their name.

In 1987, the band produced two cassette demos, and then the major label Roadrunner Records became aware of them. They recorded two albums: Socialized Hate in 1988 and Violent by Nature in 1990 and toured the U.S. and Europe, with bands like Sacred Reich from Arizona, and the Swiss band Coroner.

After the European tour Chris Lykins left the band to go to medical school. The band tried to carry on with new members and we even reached a few demos for a third album, but Roadrunner Records lost confidence in the band as Chris Lykins one of the main songwriters of the band war.So it was that the co- was not continued with the label.

Tim Kelly and James Gulotta then founded the band Head Circus, which also Rick Skowron was at times a member. However, no album was produced. Chris Lykins finished medical school and is now an expert in the field of ear, nose and throat medicine. James Gulotta has a roof tile business and Rick Skowron is aerospace engineer and avid motorcycle racer.
