Attapeu Province

Attapeu (Lao ແຂວງ ອັດ ຕະ ປື, pronunciation: [ k ʰ ː ŋ wɛ AT ː apɯ ː ] ) is a province in southeastern Laos. It borders Vietnam and Cambodia.

Attapeu is one of the most remote provinces of Laos. Only since the mid -1990s, there are reliable transport and communication links with the rest of the country. Compared to the rest of the population of Laos Attapeu is relatively poor. About 30 % of the population lives in remote mountain regions where chronic food scarcity. The remaining 70 % live in the lowlands and river valleys. Throughout the province there is only one hospital. In the province of many different ethnic minorities. Through the province of the Xe Kong River, which is partly a border river flows to Cambodia.
