Vientiane Province

Vientiane (Lao ວຽງ ຈັນ ) is a province in the middle of Laos. The provincial capital is Muang Phôn - Hông.

Geography

The Vientiane province is located in the northwest of the country. The neighboring provinces are ( from the southwest clockwise): Sayaburi, Luang Prabang, Xieng Khouang, Vientiane Prefecture and the Bolikhamsai.

To the southeast of the Mekong forms the border to Thailand. On the opposite bank lies the Thai province of Nong Khai.

History

In 1989 the province was split into two parts, the Vientiane prefecture, which contained, among other things, the capital of Vientiane, as well as the rest of the territory, the Vientiane Province.

When the " Special Zone Xaisomboun " is resolved, the district Hom and 2006, the district Xaisomboun the province was added in 2004.
