August Hahn

August Hahn ( born March 27, 1792 in Osterhausen, † May 13, 1863 in Breslau) was a German professor of Protestant theology.

Life

The son of a village schoolmaster Hahn attended grammar school in Eisleben. From 1810 to 1813, he studied theology at the University of Leipzig. After various home teaching jobs he found in 1817 recording the Protestant seminary at Wittenberg. Under Karl Ludwig Nitzsch there he developed his dogmatic position.

In 1819 he went as A.O. Professor of Theology at the Ruprecht -Karls- University of Heidelberg. The following year, he moved in the same capacity at the Albertus University of Königsberg. In 1820 he became pastor at the church Altstädtischer and superintendent. After he became professor in 1821, he put 1822 his ministry down, and distinguished himself with theological writings.

In 1826 he was appointed the University of Leipzig called. General He caused a sensation with his so-called " cock-crow " that the theological rationalists should emerge from the Protestant Church.

1832 joined as a full professor and the consistory to Wroclaw. He wanted to establish the Lutheran orthodoxy again, which was associated with the publication of a hymnal. 1839/40 he was rector of the university. In 1844 he was appointed there to Oberkonsistorialrat and General Superintendent for the old-Prussian ecclesiastical province of Silesia. In this capacity, he led the 1845 ordination commitment to the Augsburg Confession again. With Johann Christian Friedrich Steudel and August Tholuck Hahn founded end of 1829 the literary indicator for Christian theology and science in general ( LACTW ), which first appeared on January 1, 1830.
