August Jakobson

August Jakobson ( born September 2, 1904 in Pärnu, † May 23, 1963 in Tallinn, Estonian SSR ) was an Estonian writer and Communist.

Life

August Jakobson was born into a working class family. He put 1926 in Pärnu, Abitur. Subsequently, he studied from 1926 to 1929 at the University of Tartu Economics and 1931-1935 medicine without, however, earn a formal degree.

Jakobson in 1939 was elected chairman of the Estonian Writers' Union. During the first Soviet occupation of Estonia Jakobson worked 1940/41, in the offices of the newspaper communist and was head of the publishers Ilukirjandus and art. Before the advancing German army Jakobson fled to the Soviet Union. There he organized the Estonian cultural life in the service of Stalinism.

From 1944 to 1946 and from 1950 to 1954 Jakobson was chairman of the Soviet Writers' Union of Estonia ( Eesti Nõukogude Kirjanike Liit ). At the inaugural meeting of the Association in 1943 Jakobson gave in his speech already their direction before: " Instead of the previous apolitical professional association should be created a truly soviet, based on Marxist ideology, active, body and soul in socialist construction beteiligendes instrument of struggle, instead of the previous chaotic, comfortable, social problems out of the way previous group that had come together only on the basis of professional features, a strong, uniform collective should be formed, which proceeds with full awareness on its way and the policy of the Party and the Soviet institutions propagated and applied. From 1950 to 1958 August Jakobson was Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Literary work

August Jakobson's literary breakthrough came in 1927 with the novel Vaeste - Patuste alev, a naturalistic description of the workers and municipal life of that time. It was followed by other novels, short stories, fairy tales, short stories and plays. Especially after the Second World War produced Jakobson numerous stage pieces that emphasize the communist class point and the line loyalty. They reached across the Soviet Union, a high level of awareness.
