August Uihlein

August Uihlein ( born August 25, 1842 in Wertheim, † October 11, 1911 ) was a German entrepreneur and head of Joseph slot Brewing Company.

Biography

August Uihlein was born 1842 in Wertheim am Main. There, operated his parents, Joseph Benedict Ühlein and Katharina Krug, the " Gasthaus zur Krone ". In 1850, the eight -year-old Uihlein accompanied his grandfather, George Pitcher, to America. His uncle, August Krug, where he ran a tavern with brewery. Both narrowly escaped death when during the crossing went down their ship. Pitcher and Uihlein had to cling to a floating box until they were rescued by the American sailing ship " Devonshire ".

In Milwaukee Uihlein attended the German - English Academy. Then he studied from 1855 to 1857 at St. Louis University. 1858, after only nine weeks after completing his studies, the 16 -year-old Uihlein persuaded the successor of his uncle, Joseph slot to hire him as an accountant.
