August von Kreling

August von Kreling (* May 23, 1819 in Osnabrück, † April 22, 1876 in Nuremberg ) was a German painter and sculptor.

Life

Kreling was the son of a master baker Johann Friedrich Kreling and his wife Margarethe Marie Biermann. After visiting the school council Osnabrück Kreling learned in his father's business in the occupation of baker. At age 16, he moved in 1835 to the Polytechnic College in Hanover, and became a pupil of the sculptor Ernst von Bandel.

On his recommendation Kreling changed in the following year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he became a pupil of Peter von Cornelius and Ludwig Michael von Schwanthalerstraße. In these years Kreling gave up sculpture in favor of painting almost entirely. His artistic debut Kreling with nine ceiling paintings, which he created for the Court Theatre in Hanover.

The years 1847-1848 Kreling spent on a study trip in northern Italy; mostly in Venice, where he copied the works of Veronese.
