August von Rothmund

August von Rothmund ( born August 1, 1830 in Volkach, † October 27, 1906 ) was a German ophthalmologist.

Life

August von Rothmund was the son of the surgeon Franz Christoph von Rothmund ( 1801-1891 ). In 1847 he graduated at the ( present ) Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich from his schooling. He studied in Munich and in 1848 member of the Corps Isaria. After the MD thesis in 1853 in Munich went from Rothmund to Berlin to Albrecht von Graefe. Afterwards he worked with Carl Ferdinand von Arlt in Prague and at Friedrich Jäger of Jaxtthal in Vienna, before returning to Munich.

In 1854, taught by Rothmund at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich ophthalmology and was head of the surgical clinic at Reisingerianum. In 1859 he became an associate professor, in 1863 professor of ophthalmology. His election as a member of the Leopoldina was 1887. August von Rothmund in 1900 emeritus. His retirement home, the villa Rothmund in Mies Bach, was built in 1902 by Eugen Drollinger.
