Augusto Silj

Augusto Cardinal Silj ( born July 9, 1846 in calcara di Visso, Perugia, Italy, † February 27, 1926 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Augusto Silj received his philosophical, theological and legal education in Norcia and Rome. He received his doctorate in both canon law and civil law. After his ordination he worked as a pastor in various parishes of the Diocese of Rome on the hospice " Dei Convertendi ". In 1901 he was consultant to the Congregation for Bishops, 1904 Consultant to the Pontifical Commission for the codification of canon law. 1906 appointed him to the Pontifical Pope Pius X. domestic prelates and Titular Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Augusto Silj Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta.

In 1908 Augusto Silj consultant to the Congregation Council, 1916 Vice - Camerlengo of Holy Roman Church. Pope Benedict XV. took him on 15 December 1919 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Cecilia in the College of Cardinals, and appointed him a year later to the Pontifical Vicar of the shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, as well as Prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature. Augusto Cardinal Silj participated in the conclave of 1922. He died on 27 February 1926 in Rome and was buried in the local cemetery " Campo Verano ".
