Aulus Atilius Calatinus

Aulus Atilius Caiatinus (possibly Calatinus ) was a Roman politician and senator of the 3rd century BC

Caiatinus came from the plebeian gens Atilia and was the son of Aulus Atilius Calatinus, which was accused of betraying the city of Sora in the Samnite wars. Prior to the sentencing, he was rescued by a statutory declaration Quintus Fabius Maximus his father Rullianus. Consequently Caiatinus his mother's side the grandson of Fabius Rullianus.

Caiatinus was consul in 258 BC, celebrated a triumph as praetor in 257 BC, was 254 BC re-elected consul and censor 247 BC

Together with Gnaeus Cornelius Scipio Asina he conquered in 254 BC Panormus, but only Asina the triumph was awarded. 249 BC, after the devastating Seeniederlage of Publius Claudius Pulcher and Lucius Junius Pullus ( Pulcher was sentenced to a fine of 120,000 Assen, his colleague committed suicide, so that both consuls were unsuitable for the more command ), Caiatinus became the dictator selected. He led an army to Sicily (and thus became the first dictator who led an army outside the mainland of Italy ). He dedicated a temple of Spes, the personification of hope and safety of youth, on the forum Holitorium, the vegetable market which limits the Capitol to the north of the Tiber River in the south, the Servian Wall in the West and the Forum were Boarium ( cattle market ) in East and Fides, the personification of good faith, whose symbol is a pair of imposed hands as a sign of agreement on the Capitol.
