Herzogenaurach at Roth

The Herzogenaurach is a 41.1 km long, western tributary of the Rednitz in Middle Franconia. The name of Herzogenaurach means " brook, grazing on the aurochs " ( OHG ūr = aurochs and aha = running water).

River

It rises about a mile west of Petersaurach (about 450 m above sea level. NN ), flows, among other things through the villages Aich, Bertholdsdorf, Veitsaurach, Barthelmes Herzogenaurach, Rothaurach and ends at the northern edge of Roth in the Rednitz.

Like most of the western tributaries of the Herzogenaurach Rednitz has a low gradient and low runoff and sand structures near the shore and in the river bed.

Water quality

The Herzogenaurach has in its upper reaches, the water quality class II - III and improved in its lower reaches to class II
