Aurelio was after the murder of his cousin, the king Fruela I., whose successor as Fruelas son Alfonso II was still a minor. Slaves took a revolt, the Aurelio prostrated; information about these historically interesting social process only brief comments of chroniclers.

With the Arabs Aurelio kept peace. Whether an implied or contractually agreed truce existed, is unknown. Speculation that the peace as submission Aurelios under the suzerainty of the Emir Abd ar -Rahman is to be interpreted I., lack a basis in the sources and are not plausible because the Emir was then busy with other urgent tasks.

Aurelio died of an illness. Whether he was married, and if he had descendants, is unknown. He had a brother named Bermudo, the deacon was. Aurelio's successor silo was a son of King Alfonso I. Only 788 came Bermudo despite his membership in the clergy still in power.
