The Universidad Austral de Chile ( Southern University of Chile ) is a Chilean public university based in Valdivia. It was founded on September 7, 1954, is one of the seven traditional universities in the country.

Your facilities spread across the campus Isla Teja and Miraflores in Valdivia, a branch office in Puerto Montt.

In a nation-wide university ranking the newspaper El Mercurio from December 2006, the Universidad Austral landed in the quality of teaching in the first, in the field of research in the second and in the total score on the third place.

Faculties

At the Universidad Austral there are nine faculties today. Specifically, these are the

  • Faculty of Natural Sciences ( Facultad de Ciencias )
  • Faculty of Agricultural Sciences ( Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias )
  • Faculty of Engineering Sciences ( Facultad de Ciencias de la Ingeniería )
  • Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences ( Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Administrativas )
  • Faculty of Forest Sciences ( Facultad de Ciencias Forestales )
  • Faculty of Law and Social Sciences ( Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y Jurídicas )
  • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine ( Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias )
  • Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences ( Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades )
  • Faculty of Medicine ( Facultad de Medicina)

Except for the Faculty of Engineering, which has its headquarters on the campus of Miraflores, all faculties are housed on campus Isla Teja.

The Institute of Earth Sciences ( Instituto de Geociencias ) is not subject to any faculty and is also located on the campus of Isla Teja.
