Austria Metall

AMAG Austria Metall AG, or AMAG Ranshofen, a district of Braunau am Inn (Upper Austria ), is the largest Austrian aluminum group. It is a supplier of primary aluminum and aluminum semi-finished products.

Company History

The aluminum smelter was founded after the Anschluss in 1938 as Mattig work, after the river Mattig, in Braunau am Inn. After the Second World War, U.S. troops occupied the factory and handed over in 1946 to the reconstructed Republic of Austria, which it finally nationalized in 1948 as Austrian Metalworks Ltd ( OeMag ). Later, the name United Aluminium Werke AG ( VAW) has been changed. In 1957, VAW was merged with the non-ferrous metal plant in Bern village with the Arthur Krupp AG United Metalworks Ranshofen -Bern village AG ( VMW ). To expand the production palette, 1983, the factory cast aluminum rims GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of VMW was established, which was then sold to the Borbet group. After privatization in 1984 Bern village was spun off and sold in 1988. The rest of the Group in Ranshofen you renamed in Austria Metall AG ( AMAG). In 1987, the AMAG was the only state operation, the profits made and were offset by losses through the ÍIAG. Director General at the time was Rudolf Streicher. In 1996, the AMAG was privatized. Through the management buyout of Klaus Hammerer (40 %), with the participation of Constantia ( 40%) and employee trust (20 %). In 2007 it came to the sale of shares Hammerers to Constantia Packaging AG, with the exception of the former AMAG extrusion GmbH ( press shop ), which remains in the possession Hammerers (now HAI Hammerer Aluminium Industries GmbH).
