Avanos

Avanos is a town in Turkey with 13,250 inhabitants and the capital of the district of Avanos with 34 015 inhabitants ( 2013).
Geography
The city is located in the province of Nevsehir to about 920 meters above sea level in the region of Cappadocia, the Kizilirmak, Turkey 's longest river.
To the city region is one of the community Akarca. In the district are the towns of Avanos Özkonak with an underground city and Çavuşin, which boasts some rock-hewn churches. About six kilometers east of the city lies the Seljuk caravanserai Sarıhan.
History
The history of the city goes probably back to Hittite times.
Economy and Tourism
Avanos is famous for its numerous traditional potteries and brickyards. The inhabitants live primarily from tourism. In the city there are large hotels, shops of local potters, pensions, carpet dealers, bars, restaurants and entertainment establishments for the three- day tourism.
Agricultural products are mainly cereals, sugar beet, fruit and wine.
