Avenue Kléber

The Avenue Kléber is a street in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. The 1,135 -meter long and 36 meter wide road runs from the Place Charles de Gaulle with the Arc de Triomphe to the Place du Trocadéro.

History

The street named after her in honor of General Jean- Baptiste Kléber (1753-1800), who was Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) used for the commander in chief of Egypt, in the capital, Cairo, he was assassinated on June 14, 1800. Before the road was given its present name by a decree with effect from August 16, 1879, she Avenue du Roi de Rome said. The Hotel Majestic

The Russian collector Alexander Basilewski was build in 1864 on the site of today's number 19 is a luxurious house, the first of the name Hôtel Basilewski (House Basilewski ) wore. After the Spanish Queen Isabella II (1830-1904) had been deposed in September 1868, she fled to France and bought the house, which was henceforth called Palais de Castille (Palace of Castile ). The house was torn down two years later (1906 ) and in its place, the Hôtel Majestic was (Hotel Majestic ); a luxury accommodation, which is now in the neighboring Rue Dumont d' Urville. During the German occupation of France (1940-1944) here was the headquarters of the Military Commander France (MBF ) and its central departments. The other Hotel Majestic
