Avitall Gerstetter

Avitall Gerstetter ( born May 11, 1972 in Berlin ) is the first Jewish cantor in Germany.

Life

Avitall Gerstetter grew up in a traditional Jewish family in West Berlin and was brought up by her mother, the music and Bat Mitzvah teacher Chava Gerstetter to the music. After graduation Avitall Gerstetter studied main singing with Professor Rudolf Riemer, as well as piano, clarinet and dance at the University of the Arts Berlin. As a second subject, she studied English at the Technical University of Berlin. Early on, fell on her special vocal talent that she showed, among other things in the choir of the Jewish community of the synagogue Pestalozzistraße. From chief cantor Estrongo Nachama she was encouraged to become a cantor. In 2001 Gerstetter completed her training cantor in New York and has since officiated regularly in the synagogues Oranienburger Straße and the hut, where it was initially in orthodox circles of Berlin community reservations about a cantor.

Social commitment

To bring together people of different religion, organized Avitall Gerstetter 2005, in cooperation with haGalil, the first time an inter -faith football tournament. She called the tournament " Avitallscup ". In the second discharge in June 2006, each played an atheist, Christian, Jewish and Muslim team. These were endorsed by celebrities like Petra Pau and Ulla Meinecke acted as referee Hans- Christian Ströbele.

Together with Konstantin Wecker took Avitall Gerstetter 2005, a benefit CD for the benefit of haGalil on.

Concerts
