Avner Shaki

Awner Chai Shaki (Hebrew אַבְנֵר - חַי שאקי, born February 5, 1926 in Safed, the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine; † 28 May 2005) was an Israeli politician and minister.

Life

Schaki studied law and earned a Ph.D. degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He then worked as a lecturer in the universities in Canada and USA. On 16 July 1970, he was - in the clearing process as a substitute for Chaim - Moshe Shapira - Knesset member of the National Religious Party. On September 1, 1970, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Education. He left the Cabinet on 17 July 1972 on 22 May 1973, he left the National Religious Party and switched to the non-Party members, and remained Knesset until the elections in 1973. Subsequently, he returned to the national-religious party and was re-elected to the Knesset in 1984. Shaki was re-elected in 1988 and in December of the same year to the Minister for Jerusalem Affairs ( also Jerusalem Affairs Minister of Israel) appointed. In 1990 he was appointed as Minister of Religion and held that post until the elections in 1992. It was established in 1992 and ending in 1996, re-elected, but then held no office.
