The Avon River is a small river in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales. The river is located in Wollongong City Local Government Area.

It rises about 4 km west of Calderwood and flows north to the Cordeaux River, into which it flows south of Wilton

The Avon River is one of four rivers of the Upper Nepean system. The Lake Avon, the largest of the four reservoirs in the Upper Nepean system was built in 1921-1927 and supplied the greater Sydney area with water. In 1963, the water was diverted to the region Illawarra, to meet the growing demand for water there. Today, the reservoir supplies throughout Wollongong
