Axel Smeets

Axel Smeets (born 12 July 1974 in Brussels ) is a former Belgian- Congolese football player. The defender played his career in Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, Turkey and Norway.

Sports career

Smeets comes from the youth for RSC Anderlecht. In 1993 he began his professional career at Standard Liege, but closed after one season at the KAA Gent. From there he moved in 1997 to the Spanish club UD Salamanca, where, however, he could not prevail. Therefore, he returned after a year to Belgium and joined the KV Kortrijk. In 1999 he went to the English club Sheffield United. Again his stay abroad was not crowned with success, so he again returned to Belgium and went to Lierse SK. In 2003 he tried his hand at MKE Ankaragucu again abroad, but switched at the end of the season in the Tippeligaen in Ham -Kam. There, he finished his career in 2006.
