Axel Wegner

Axel Wegner ( born June 3, 1963 in Demmin ) is a German sports shooter. The specialist in Skeet 1988 Olympic champion for the GDR. 2008, he has qualified for the fourth time after the reunification of the German Olympic team.

Wegner began in Loitz with the shooting sports, but was delegated his victory in the 1981 Spartakiade to Leipzig. In 1983 he was European Junior Champion. In 1984, he won in the competitions of Friendship in Moscow, the replacement sporting event for athletes who are unable to attend the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles because of the Olympic boycott. 1985 Wegner won the East German championship, at the World Championships in 1985 he was ninth in 1986 and eighth. 1987 Wegner won the team competition at the World Championships. The highlight of his career experienced Wegner at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. With a disc protrusion, he received the Olympic gold medal. He was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold for this victory also in 1984 had received.

1991 Wegner was for the reunified Germany World Cup Fourth and European champions.
