Ayumi Tanimoto

Ayumi Tanimoto (谷 本 歩 実Japanese Ayumi Tanimoto; * August 4, 1981 in Anjo ) is a former Japanese judoka and two-time Olympic gold medalist. She stepped into the weight class up to 63 kg, the light middleweight.

Tanimoto began her career in 2000 with a second place at the Junior World Championships. In 2001 she won at the Asian Championships in Ulaanbaatar and won at the World Championships in Munich, the bronze medal. In 2002, she also won at the Asian Games in Busan. After a year without an international win they again won the title at the Asian Games 2004 in Almaty. Three months later she won at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens in the final against the Austrian Claudia Heill.

At the 2005 World Championships in Cairo, they lost the final of the French Lucie Decosse. In 2006 she won the bronze medal at the Asian Games.
