Azariah Boody

Azariah Boody (* April 21, 1815 in Quebec, Lower Canada, † November 18, 1885 in New York City ) was an American politician. In 1853 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his youth came Azariah Boody with his parents to Lowell in Massachusetts, where he attended the public schools. In 1850 he moved to Rochester in New York state: There he was active in agriculture. From 1853 to 1865 he was curator of the University of Rochester. Politically, he was a member of the Whig party.

In the congressional elections of 1852 Boody was the 29th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jerediah Horsford on March 4, 1853. He could exercise his mandate until his resignation in October 1853. Since 1855 Boody lived in New York City. In the following years he went into the railway industry and was president and board member of various railway companies. He was also active in the channel and bridge. In 1875 he retired from business life. He died on November 18, 1885 in New York.
