Jerediah Horsford

Jerediah Horsford ( born March 8, 1791 in Charlotte, Chittenden County, Vermont; † January 14, 1875 in Livonia, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1851 and 1853 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jerediah Horsford attended the common schools and worked in agriculture. He also took active part in the British -American War of 1812. In 1815 he was a missionary among the Seneca Indians. In his home, he held various local offices. In 1831 he became a deputy in the New York State Assembly. Later he became a member of the Whig party.

In the congressional elections of 1850 Horsford on the 29th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert L. Rose on March 4, 1851. Until March 3, 1853, he was able to complete a term in Congress. This was marked by the events leading up to the Civil War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Jerediah Horsford was also colonel in the state militia of New York. In 1863 he moved to Livonia in Livingston County, where he worked again in agriculture. He is also passed on 14 January 1875.
