Azumir Veríssimo

Azumir Luis Casimiro Veríssimo, usually just called Azumir ( born June 7, 1935 in Rio de Janeiro, † December 2, 2012 ibid ), was a Brazilian football player. He made in 1962 a name for himself mainly as a Portuguese scorer.

In Rio de Janeiro he played from 1958 to 1960 when Madureira EC and 1961 CR Vasco da Gama. Miscellaneous lists according to which he is said to have played at Bangu AC, CR Flamengo, Botafogo FR and the Fluminense FC.

In 1961, he moved to Portugal to FC Porto. There he struck a superb and was already in his first season under the Hungarian coach György " Jorge " Orth and after his death in the middle of the season under the Argentines Francisco Reboredo, runner-up behind Sporting Lisbon, but before the winner in the European Cup of Champions Benfica Lisbon. He contributed with 23 goals in 20 games in what he gereichte that season in honor of the scorer. In the following season he was again runner-up, this time behind Benfica. His 17 goals in 19 games were also considerable. In the season 1963/64, he came only to five appearances with three goals. Among his better-known colleagues at FC Porto national players Virgílio Marques and Hernâni Ferreira da Silva belonged.

For the following season, he moved to the second division for SC Covilha, with whom he reached a middle seat. In 1965 he moved to FC Barreirense on and played with it again first class. In 17 games, he was only a goal, the club was relegated last. He stayed one more season and was able to celebrate the immediate resurgence.

He himself, now 32 years old, but the third division joined the 1967/68 season CD Beja. Later in his career, he finished this at FC Tirsense from Santo Tirso in northern Portugal, which maneuvered in those years between first and second division.

Azumir later settled again in Rio de Janeiro, where he died after a long illness on December 2, 2012.
