Azymuth

Azymuth is a three-piece jazz fusion band from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

History

Azymuth was founded in 1972; Band members are Jose Roberto Bertrami (keyboards, † 2012), Alex Malheiros (bass ), ( guitar) and Ivan Conti (drums).

The band presented their first album in 1973 and toured with Elis Regina, Eumir Deodato, Jorge Ben, Gal Costa and Milton Nascimento. She had in 1980 with "Jazz Carnival" their biggest hit, and in the eighties released a number of albums on the label Milestone Records. The musicians of Azymuth call their music "Samba Doido " which means " crazy samba ." Since the early nineties, they released albums on the British Far Out Recordings label, but still toured Brazil.

Azymuth also produced other musicians and played over the years appeared in numerous other projects. A well-known album is among other things by the Brazilian singer Ana Mazzotti, another by Sabrina Malheiros, daughter of bassist, from the year 2005. Lot of songs have been covered by Azymuth of very different musicians. Among other things, Jazzanova Remixes has made.

In May 2008, Ivan Conti published with hip- hop musician Madlib an album titled Sujinho.
