Jazzanova

Jazzanova is a Nu Jazz fed rechnetes Berliner disc jockey and producer collective, which was known by both remixes as well as through its own publications. It operates alongside the record label Sonar Kollektiv.

History

International attention excited Jazzanova 1997 with the up-tempo jazz -Brasil - number " Fedime 's Flight ". Hub for the sound cosmos of Jazzanova is the Club " Delicious Doughnuts " in Berlin. This laid the mid 90s Alexander Barck, Claas and Jürgen von Knoblauch Brieler on their mix of jazz, Latin and House. As a seasoned big-city DJs they wanted to remix the trend, and to self-publish, not to run after. Together with the hip- hop producers Rosko Kretschmann ( Kosma ) they made first own tracks for the " Delicious Doughnuts " compilations. With the second edition of the Club sampler Kretschmann instructed his friends Axel Reinemer and Stefan Leisenring, who published together under the pseudonyms "Extended Spirit" and " Pathless ". However, since the appearance of the title jointly produced was endangered, founded the disc jockeys ado own label ( Jazzanova Records) and integrated the three producers in the band and give their child the name of Jazzanova.

By connecting to " Compost " boss Michael Reinboth reached " Fedime 's Flight " the attention of trendy European nu-jazz DJs. This was followed by international DJ Jobs and remixes for Marsh Mellow, Visit Venus, Karma, UFO, 4 Hero and Ian Pooley. These were published on various samplers and a first EP. Own compilations and the establishment of the sonar collective rounded off the range. According Claas Jazzanova used at the time as " a source of inspiration many jazz records, Brasil plates, Latin boards, boogie, soul, folk, soundtracks, and rock -heavy, experimental fusion titles from the 70s. We try to put into formats that are used today: House, Drum and Bass, Jungle, Trip Hop, Nu Jazz, Hip Hop and so on. "

After this start-up phase took several years before their official debut album presented Jazzanova In Between. Originally announced in 2000, it was not released until spring 2002. Again and again of remix jobs ( Calexico, Rainer Truby, MJ Cole, Liquid Lounge, Incognito, Eternal Sun, King Britt feat. Ursula Rucker, Koop, Roy Davis Junior ) is interrupted, they developed a new profile path from Latin jazz, which was initially her trademark, "convinced " Between through varied programming that no longer committed to a particular style.

After two more albums Remix commissioned in 2005 Blue Note the Jazzanova collective with the task of the fourth edition of Label series to compile "Blue Note Trip " and carefully to create the opportunity for the remix hand. This includes the privilege of being able to access the archives of jazz labels. The resulting double album, rare groove classics and latino hydrophilic Finds received a contemporary sound costume.

For an overview see also the compilation " The Remixes 2002-2005 ". There are included, inter alia, Masters At Work, Eddie Gale, Marcos Valle, Calexico and Free Design. For " Scrambled / Mashed ", her second contribution to the "Blue Note Trip " series, Jazzanova selected 2006 pieces of jazz greats such as Horace Silver, Grant Green, Gary Bartz and Andrew Hill and combined them with more contemporary sounds of Raul Midón, David Bowie & Pat Metheny, Madlib, and Medeski, Martin & Wood.

2008 Jazzanova released their album Of All the Things on Verve Music. The sample-based mode of production is significantly changed in favor of simultaneous recordings with musicians. This guest musicians such as Leon Ware, Paul Randolph, Phonte, Dwele, Bembe Segue or Thief will be presented. In 2009, the band goes with vocalist Paul Randolph from Detroit on tour.
