Babbage is an impact crater on the northwestern edge of the moon 's front panel. He touched the wall in the northwest of the crater Pythagoras and the Southwest Oenopides. The edge of Babbage 's where not entirely leveled, severely eroded. In the southwest, it is overshadowed by the addition Cretans Babbage D and the South East of South.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British mathematician Charles Babbage. The notification was carried out for the first time by the English amateur astronomer William Radcliffe Birt 1862.
