Babe Ruth (Band)

Babe Ruth was a rock band of the 1970s, from Hatfield, England. The greatest success the band had not in their homeland, but in North America.

History

The group was founded in 1971 under the name Shacklock, named after the guitarist Alan Shacklock. Other founding members were Janita Haan and Dave Hewitt. Later, Dave Punshon and Dick Powell were added ( the brother of drummer Don Powell Slade ). Their first release was the single Elusive. The first album, First Base reached gold status in Canada.

1973, in the production of their second album, replaced Ed Spevock and Chris Holmes, Dave Punshon and Dick Powell. 1975 Chris Holmes was replaced by keyboardist Steve Gurl of Wild Turkey. In the same year Alan Shacklock resigned and was replaced by Bernie Marsden of Wild Turkey. Thereafter, Haan and Hewitt left the band, so now none of the original members remained. The fifth album was recorded with Ellie Hope and Ray Knott 1976. A few months later, the band broke up. Bernie Marsden later went to Whitesnake.

At the turn of 2005/2006 started Janita Haan (now Janita Haan Morris), Shacklock, Alan and Dave Hewitt new recordings in Nashville along with Ed Spevock, who made his drum recordings in London. The album was completed in September 2006, but is currently only available in the band's own label online.
