Baby Boy Warren

Baby Boy Warren ( born August 13, 1919 in Lake Providence, Louisiana as Robert Henry Warren, † July 1, 1977 in Detroit ) was an American blues singer and guitarist of Detroit blues.

Baby Boy Warren, who was also marketed under the pseudonym Johnny Williams, grew up in Memphis ( Tennessee). Nicknamed the " Baby Boy" he got as a child by his older brothers. Early interested in music, he entered in 1931 on occasion, after he was kicked out of school and had guitar lessons from two of his elder brothers. In the 1930s he worked at the WC Handy Park in Memphis with Howling Wolf, Robert Lockwood Jr., Little Buddy Doyle and other musicians; He also appeared in the data transmitted from Helena, Arkansas King Biscuit Time radio show from around 1941 on, along with Sonny Boy Williamson. In 1942 he moved to Detroit, where he worked for General Motors and also works as a musician.

In Detroit, Warren had 1949/50, first recording sessions; Five singles were released on various labels. Other pieces were written in 1954 in a session in which he was accompanied by Sonny Boy Williamson; they appeared at Joe Battles From JVB label and Excello Records. Warren took this year on a single for the label Blue Lake that involved the pianist Boogie Woogie Red and guitarist Calvin Frazier; further recordings were held for the label Drummond and Gotham Records. He worked among others at this time with Big John Wrencher together.

In the 1960s, Warren was musically very little active, but his career took on again when he was obliged in 1971 for the Detroit Blues Festival. In 1972 he toured with Boogie Woogie Red by Europe and appeared as one of the first of the great blues musicians in the newly founded Vienna Jazzland, 1973 he guested on the Ann Arbor Blues Festival.

Warren died in July 1977 of a heart attack and is buried in the Detroit Memorial Park Cemetery in Macomb County, Michigan.
