Bachfest Leipzig

The Leipzig Bach Festival is a music festival. It was held for the first time in 1908 in the city of Leipzig.

In 1904 there had been the second German Bach Festival of the New Bach Society in the fair city. The Bach Festival took place in the period that followed at irregular intervals, referred to in part as Bach Bach weeks or days instead.

Since 1999, the festival is organized every year by the Bach-Archiv Leipzig on behalf of the city, each time under a different motto.

For Bach Festival selected pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach are listed, who lived and from 1723 until his death in 1750 as cantor at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig worked. In addition, selected organ rides are in Central Germany for regular program.

Every year there are about 100 individual events of the Bach Festival held, including a concert under the direction of Thomas cantor Georg Christoph Biller opening.
