Badener Greifs

The Baden Griffin are a German American football club from Karlsruhe.

History

The griffin was founded in 1982 by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts and are thus one of the oldest existing American football clubs in Germany. Since 1983 they take part in the game mode. The first big success celebrated the Griffin in 1985 with the rise in the 1st Bundesliga. In 1987 came the biggest success in club history, the entry into the German Bowl IX. After victories in the play-offs against the Dortmund Giants ( 48:6 ) and Ansbach Grizzlies ( 13:7 ) the Berlin Adler Baden subject in the final 12:37. Overall, Griffin reached between 1986 and 1991, respectively, the play-offs and won four times their season. About the quarterfinals at the German Bowl but they never came out. The youth team acted well in this time and reached the semifinals at the 1989 Junior Bowl. 1992 Griffin then missed the first time the play-offs and avoided relegation only just. Points with the two relegated Stuttgart Scorpions and Darmstadt Diamonds, the Griffin received only by the better direct comparisons, the highest German league. The descent was followed a year later in the season 1993. Penultimate in their group was the griffin's undoing, that the team strength first Bundesliga has been reduced by a team. But in the season of 1994, the decline could not be stopped and we got off again and was the first time in the club's only mediocre. After another season of mixed 1995 Griffin twice reached the second place in the regional center and in 1998 succeeded the championship and promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. However, after only two seasons, it went back to the Regionalliga. In addition to the men's team, the Baden also have a youth team that competes in the 2009 season in the league structure.

In the 2010 season of the Baden griffin men's team after a successful season again succeeded in rising to the 2nd Bundesliga, however, they are descended from the end of the season.

Since July 2011, there are at the Baden griffin also a Senior Flag 5on5 team. Flag Football is the poor contact variant of American football.
