Ansbach Grizzlies

The Ansbach Grizzlies are an American football club from Ansbach in Bavaria in Germany. The Ansbach Grizzlies are co-founders of the American Football League, the present-day GFL, and three-time German champion.

History

The Ansbach Grizzlies were established in 1979.

Together with the Frankfurt Lions, panthers Dusseldorf, Munich Cowboys, Bremerhaven Seahawks and the Berlin eagles denied the Grizzlies the first Bundesliga season.

In the first final, today's German Bowl, the Grizzlies 1979 runners-up were published on 10 November with a 8:14 against the Frankfurt Lions.

After another defeat ( 12:21 ) against the Lions in the final in 1980 they were in 1981 with a 27:6 win against Frankfurt for the first time German champion.

In 1982, another league title with a 12:6 against the Cologne Crocodiles. In 1983 and 1984, the Ansbach Grizzlies were each runner against the Dusseldorf Panthers and against the same opponents again in 1985 German Champion ( 14:7 ). 1986 took the Ansbach Grizzlies last time on final part and subject to the Panthers with 14:27.

In the years 1987 and 1988, the Grizzlies took part in the semi-finals and in 1989 part of the quarter-finals of the League. After a fifth place in 1990 ended the great era of Ansbach Grizzlies.

After two downs in a row, the team played in the third, temporarily in the fourth division, was the withdrawal from the official game operation until after the 1998 season.

After a rebuild and participation in the construction League in 2000, the Ansbach Grizzlies take since 2001 part of the regular operation. First launched in the national league Bavaria West, the team played until the end of the 2006 season in the Bayern league, which corresponds to the fourth league in Germany. For 2007, the men's team has not been reported to play mode and instead transitional formed a senior flag football team. In the 2008 season the team played in the development league Bayern A. However, due to lack of players had soon after the season starts, the team from the running game working again will be logged out. In addition to the Ansbach Grizzlies as a men's team in association with the Young Grizzlies plays a youth team as a gaming community with the Erlangen Sharks. With eight participations in the German Bowl in a row 1979-1986 the Ansbach Grizzlies set a record that has been equaled only in 2004 by the Braunschweig Lions.
