The team of the Cologne Crocodiles is an association for American football in Cologne.
History
As 1st American Football Club Cologne eV Cologne Crocodiles, the club was founded on 13 March 1980. It developed over time into one of the most traditional American football teams in Germany. Thus, the Cologne Crocodiles lead since its foundation in the eternal Bundesliga table and have scored in the German Football League the most points. In 1980 they launched in the North West German Football League, then they played from 1981 to 2003 continuously in the highest German football league, now the GFL. During this time, they could 1982, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2000 recorded a total of six appearances in the final, the German Bowl, as well as winning the German championship in 2000 German Bowl XXII in and against Brunswick, the largest successes.
After the 2003 season for financial reasons then came the end for the 1st American Football Club Cologne eV and thus also for the men's team in the Cologne Crocodiles. The then Board was forced to initiate insolvency proceedings of the traditional club, during which the club was restructured. The youth department of the Cologne Crocodiles, two-time Junior Bowl Champion 1983 and 1993 and the NRW Champion 1997, the SV Lövenich / Widdersdorf joined in 2004 1986/27 eV and plays since 2012 back in the GFL Juniors, the highest German Youth League. The Cologne Crocodiles represent one of the few American football clubs in Germany, a C- youth team, winning the first official C- youth - friendly in Germany at all. Since 2009, represent the Crocodiles with the D- youth one of the first U12 team in the tackle area.
Since 2008, the long-planned reconstruction of a men's team was ahead, which again took part in the game as the Land NRW League South 2009. The regular season was the team's unbeaten First Place finish and then kicked the Sauerland Mustangs in the classification matches to the division title. In 2010, the Cologne Crocodiles finished the season in the regional league with the league title in 2011 and went on in the big leagues. The first year in the league was very successful. After Udo Rath gave up the post of " Head Coaches " for personal reasons, the former player Thomas Achtermannshöhe and Christian Rasquin took over the team as a coach. After a season with nine wins and one defeat the Lizards won the Oberliga NRW in 2012 and rose to the Regionalliga West on. The successful reconstruction could be continued in the Regionalliga West under head coach Cevin Conrad in the 2013 season. With six wins and a score ratio of 208:14 was started in the third league season. After the change in the post of head coaches to the Crocodiles veteran David Odenthal before the summer break had to give lost the next two games. The season ended with two wins and 105:3 points. Thus, they made sure the new championship and the direct promotion to the second division, the GFL2 North.
