Wiesbaden Phantoms

The Wiesbaden Phantoms are a football team from Wiesbaden, the capital of the federal state of Hesse. Sponsoring organization is the AFC Wiesbaden Phantoms e.V.

History

The Wiesbaden Phantoms were established in 1984 as a department of the first football club north of Wiesbaden.

In 1985, the team first participated in the regular game mode and launched in the former Regional. In 1986 the rise in the second league. In the same year the Phantoms founded the " American Football Club Wiesbaden eV " their own club.

Far-reaching changes to the league structure and sporting failures, the Phantoms were finally back in the big leagues. For 1997, no team could be reported, so that 1998 was a rebuilding in the national league.

Started in the national league in 1998, the direct promotion to the premier league and one year later managed the promotion to the Regionalliga.

In 2003, the Phantoms were promoted to the second division. After a fourth place finish in 2004 and the runner-up title in 2005 they missed the championship in the 2006 season just around the tied Weinheim Longhorns. In the 2007 season they had to bow to the strong Swiss franc Knights and later promoted Munich Cowboys, among others, and ended up in the final after a surprise defeat on the final day in Königsbrunn in fourth place in the table. Also in the 2008 season, the Phantoms played long with the championship, then had to but with the third place behind the Franks Knights and the Master and later GFL - Up Plattling Blackhawks satisfied. As I started in the previous years as one of the favorites in the 2009 season, the decisive games were against the only serious competitor, the Franken Knights, narrowly lost ( 9:10 and 10:14 ) and at the end of the season was only the second place in the table. In 2010 was achieved by increasing the GFL of the way into the play-offs against the Weinheim Longhorns and the rise in the GFL South. In the 2011 season the Phantoms reached the 5th Place and in the 2012 season, the 6th place of the GFL. In 2013 they closed the Table from the 8th place and therefore had to compete against the Allgäu Comets in the relegation. The first leg was lost, so the 44:34 victory in the second leg could not avert relegation to the GFL 2 with 21:37.
