The Weinheim Longhorns are home to a football team from Weinheim Baden- Württemberg and in the TSG Weinheim.

History

The Weinheim Longhorns were established in 1990 as a department of gymnastics and sports community in 1862 Weinheim eV. The regular operation they took on in 1991. After promotion to the Oberliga Baden- Württemberg they played there 1997 to 2000. In 2000, the ascent took place in the Regionalliga Mitte.

In the 2004 season, the athletic promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga South was reached in which the Weinheim Longhorns then occupied the third place.

In the 2006 season, the Longhorns were in front of the tied Wiesbaden Phantoms due to the direct comparison league champions. The relegation matches against the league last of the GFL -South, the Munich Cowboys, they decided with 20:0 and 27:14 for themselves and rose to the Bundesliga, the German Football League ( GFL ) on.

In the first year in the GFL -South the Weinheim Longhorns occupied the 4th place and thus qualified for the play-offs. Here they met abroad in the quarter-finals on 15 September 2007, the North champion Braunschweig Lions and retired after a 26:55 defeat in the race for the German championship from.

In the second and third year in the GFL -South they finished each 4th Place, therefore subjected again in the play-offs and lost both times again each away in the quarter finals on September 6, 2008 and September 6, 2009 with 21:47 and 13:30 against North champion Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (2008) and Berlin Adler ( 2009).

In 2010, the Weinheim Longhorns came up after twelve defeats in the league after another defeat in the relegation without a win in the 2nd Bundesliga from.

Team

In addition to the men's team an A- and B youth team and a junior flag team ( U15 ) are located at the Weinheim Longhorns yet.

The junior flag team ( U15 ) in 2011 Baden -Württemberg and German champion 5on5 Hallenflagfootball and remained unbeaten in both championships. Later in the season, the team battled in the 9on9 the Baden-Wuerttemberg championship and was subsequently German vice-champion. The year 2011 is thus the most successful of the U15 flag football team since its inception. In 2012, the junior flag team ( U15 ) could defend the Baden-Wuerttemberg title in 5on5 Hallenflagfootball successfully unbeaten. The German Championships in 5on5 were on 28-29. April 2012 held in Weinheim, the Longhorns reached the finals again and were German vice-champion. At the German Championships in 9on9 4th place 2012 has been reached.

Cheerleading

Nationwide known are the Weinheim Longhorns also by the successes of the Weinheim Longhorns Cheerleader who already were twice German champion cheerleading in addition to various national championships. In addition to the Seniors, there are still a junior and a Pee- Wee's squad at the club.
